TO SLOVAKIA & BACK

Here we are! I am very excited to kick off our Missions series with my friend Laura Troutman. Laura and I served together overseas with the same organization. While I was in Ukraine, she was doing her thang over in gorgeous Slovakia. Laura is a fellow single, southern gal hailing from South Carolina.
Laura and I found a kindred spirit in each other when we met at missionary orientation. We bonded right away over giggling too much, being a distraction at orientation, Grey’s Anatomy, and, of course, high kicks. We were camp dance choreographers and vacation buddies, along with our partner-in-crime Katka (Vlnova) Roney. We were big on taking that perfect album cover shot…for our pretend bang, of course.
It wasn’t always fun and games, but we always had each other to call for a much-needed laugh or a good cry. Life in Slovakia was beautiful and hard. As Laura said, it was some of the most transformative years of her life.
Laura’s story is one of obedience and wisdom in both saying “yes” to becoming a missionary in Slovakia and also her return back to the States. This is her story of living that missionary life then coming back home and serving locally.
